LH1605 Switching Regulator
The device is housed in a standard 8-pin TO-3 power package containing a temperature compensated voltage reference, an error amplifier, a pulsewidth modulator with programmable operating frequency and a high current output switch and steering diode. Typical performance of the LH1605 is summarized in Table I.

simple switching power supply by LM393
I built a PCB for a simple switching power supply, originally designed by Keith Payea of the SRS. It uses an LM393, a P-channel power MOSFET, and darn little else. Since its frequency varies based on load (and nearly everything else imaginable), you can use junk-box parts and build it for cheap.

Inductorless Switching Regulator Boosts Input Voltage
Uses the MAX641 switching controller and an external discrete charge pump to step up the input voltage. This circuit can service low loads and is efficient when the output is two, three, four times the input voltage. Adding the MAX627 MOS driver can further increase the output current capability.
