Servo pulse to PWM converter by LM324

The circuit presented on this page attemps to be an interface to convert pulses such as provided by a Basic Stamp or R/C receiver to a dual PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal required by an H-bridge. The simplest circuit would use a small microcontroller like a PIC. This circuit takes a more traditional approach. Many experimenters will have all the parts already. Total parts cost should be equal to a simple espresso drink, although I have stopped drinking coffee I still remember how much it costs.

PWM Driven Safety Strobe by UC3842 – TL3842

PWM Driven Safety Strobe by UC3842 - TL3842

You’ve seen them when you’re driving. Mailmen use them, snow plows have them. This is a schematic of the circuit inside. This was taken from a popular unit available at NAPA auto parts stores. It’s amazing how simple it is for a PWM circuit.
It uses a UC3842 (here a TL3842 clone) pulse width modulator to regulate the charge on the main storage capacitor. In this respect is similar to a computer power supply. It has an interesting Zener booster circuit using an NPN transistor, shown on the left of the drawing. This keeps the supply voltage at or below 15V at all times. One great feature that this affords is a great variety of input voltages. It s rated at 12-80V.

Pulse Width Modulators using LM339

Pulse Width Modulators using LM339

The first example uses the standard op-amp oscillator circuit to generate a triangular waveform which is level-shifted and fed to a comparator (e.g. LM339) to give the PWM waveform. Most people will want to use two comparators rather than one op-amp and one comparator so that is what we show here.
