LM3875 Chip Amplifier
The Beast is a LM3875 Chip Amplifier, built from a popular chipamp kit. I’m hard to please and always looking for new things to try in audio. If it involves a DIY project, all the better. Mark and Gio had been after me to try a chipamp for some time. I really didn’t need any more amps and the spousal concern factor has been growing! My collection of gear exceeds size of my listening room and stray pieces are being stashed throughout the house. If you have looked at the other projects on the site you will see that a modified K-12 is my primary serious listening amp. It does what I ask and more.

My goal was to design a high-powered wide-bandwidth amplifier with the finest sound and to keep it simple but not too simple. I rejected single-ended (SE) designs because of their low power and limited bandwidth. I wanted to see if I could get similar sound quality perhaps better with an efficient push-pull design. And I wanted to do it my way.

In the the valveamp schematic below you see that the amplifier is built with only 5 vacuum tubes!
The circuit is a classic push-pull amplifier using an output transformer with a center tap.
This topology is widely used for tube amplifiers, because it is impossible to make a complementary P-type tube:
you cannot make holes in vacuum as you do in semiconductor materials.
