LM338 / LM350 / LM317 VOLTAGE REGULATOR CALCULATOR
You can use this calculator to vary the value of the program resistor (R1) and output set resistor (R2) and calculate the output voltage for the LM317 / LM338 / LM350 family of three terminal adjustable regulators. This calculator will work for most DC Voltage Regulators with a reference voltage (VREF) of 1.25. Typically, the program resistor (R1) is 240 ohms for the LM117, LM317, LM138 and LM150. For the LM338 and LM350, 120 ohms is typically used. However, other values such as 150 or 220 ohms can also be used. Refer to the adjustable regulator datasheets below for more information.

This is straight from a National Semiconductor data sheet, will supply a variable voltage (1.2V – 25V and up to 10A) I will assume you obviously have available a source of D.C. voltage (filtered) @ 10A.
Here is the broad schematic BUT you will have to consult the LM350K data sheet AND applicaion notes.
Now if you are competent to build a 4.5V to 25V variable power supply capable of supplying 10 amps then the above information is all you need. On the other hand if the above leaves more questions than were answered then obviously you need more experience. The little schematic above, as a project, would run into hundreds of dollars to build. For experience, try the smaller project in the next section. It’s a useful tool.
