+25V -25V DC Power Supply

The schematic below shows how the +25V DC and -25V DC are obtained. In order to provide power supply for 2 stereo amplifiers, a power transformer rating of 80VA with 240V/36V centre tapped secondary winding is used. The secondary output of the transformer is rectified by using four 1N5401 diodes together with 4 electrolytic capacitors to smoothen the ripple voltage. A fuse and a varistor are connected at the primary input to protect the circuit against power surge.

Here is Circuit power supply +20V and -20V 5A,Use IC LM338.
Nick initially adjusted the quiescent current to 3.5A but found after listening tests that increasing this to 4A gave a noticeable improvement. Even at an Iq of 4A the amps run cool due to the substantial heatsinking (0.5degC/W for each output device and each LM338K). Variations in quiescent current and dc offset with temperature are minimal, with an Iq of 3.8A and a dc offset of less than 35mV at switch-on.

The ultra-regulation of the power supply +48VDC,+24VDC,+16.4VDC is so over the top and unnecessary that most, if not all, people building this amplifier would not even notice the difference. However there are a number of benefits to this design. First its a dual tracking design. Because the open loop gain of the amp is low, its common mode rejection due to the power supply is not great. However if both the + and – voltage rails move up and down the same amount, there is no bias drift.
