Battery Saver by Pushbutton Version

The Battery Saver is designed to prolong the battery life in small toys and devices by
disconnecting the load after a preset period. The two versions shown switch up to
one amp and give about one minute of operation before shutting off.
When the switch is pressed, the capacitor charges and the full battery voltage is applied
to the load. The capacitor slowly discharges and the circuit turns off when the voltage
reaches about 1volt.

Make a Rechargeable Dual Voltage Power Supply for Electronic Projects

Make a Rechargeable Dual Voltage Power Supply for Electronic Projects

Mod a 9V rechargeable battery to give you +3.6V, Ground and -3.6V.
You will appreciate this idea if you ever had to clobber together a bunch of AAs or AAAs to get a project working.
This instructable was meant to be part of a larger project, but I decided to submit this part alone to the 9V battery group.
You need to start with a 9V rechargeable battery (actually 8.4V but in a 9V package).

DC Adapter with Battery Backup

With just a low cost DC adapter and the circuit described here it is possible to build a low cost stabilised, uninterruptible 9 V supply. On the grounds of safety and economy, a simple unstabilised 12 V D.C. adapter is used as the power source, a universal adapter with its output set to 12 V will do equally well. The output voltage of an adapter under low load conditions (up to approximately 1/3 of the rated output current) is over 15 V, even at the rated output current, there will be sufficient voltage to supply a 9 V voltage regulator.
